Number 5 - Search Engine Land

Our list starts out featuring a great site with a wealth of information on Search Engine Optimization (from here on referred to as SEO). Search Engine Land does a fantastic job of posting concrete and long time tenants of SEO, but also stays on the cutting edge of new SEO techniques and strategies. Home of "The Periodic Table of SEO Success", search engine land is must see.

Number 4 - Quick Sprout

Quick Sprout features The Advanced Guide to SEO. Written by Neil and Sujan Patel, The Advanced Guide to SEO is not for the faint of heart. This is an ultra guide for your serious SEO practitioners. Although the authors do a tremendous job of breaking down their strategies step by step, I would recommend having a working knowledge of SEO before attempting any of the Patel techniques. It's actually mind blowing how they are able to make something so advanced seem so simple.

Number 3 - SEO Chat Tools

This list of tools is pretty freakin' sweet. SEO Chat Tools includes tons of tools ranging from site map generators to search engine simulators. They also include some great tools to assist in social media and the new schema.org rich snippets. If the tools aren't enough to pique your interest, did I mention that they have a forum with over 250,000 members with over one million post? That's a lot of SEO conversation.

Number 2 - MOZ.com

MOZ.com is a good site. Sounds kind of simple, right? Well that's how MOZ.com keeps it. Simple. This well written, easy to understand website is the place to start if you are a beginner and a great place to finish if you're an expert. MOZ.com not only talks the talk, but they most certainly walk the walk. All their information is well researched, up to date, and backed up by tests and experiments. The authors do an incredible job of explaining how to do things and why to do those things. Simply put, if you want to learn about SEO, go to MOZ.com.

Number 1 - Google (2 links below)

If you want the best information, go straight to the source. Google is the authority on SEO. After all, Google puts the SE in SEO. Google offers an immense amount of information on SEO, and all of it is gold, but two resources stand out: Google's Webmaster Tools and Google's SEO Starter Guide. These two resources are mandatory for any SEO reading.
    Google's Webmaster Tools
is a necessity for any website that wants to rise to the top. Webmaster Tools provides simple and specific tactics one must follow to have any SEO success. FYI, you must have a website to use the tools Webmaster provides, however, even without a website, you can still read some great articles and watch some informative videos on SEO.
Google's SEO Starter Guide will most likely have every answer you are looking for, provided your question is about SEO. The starter guide tells you how to do it and why to do it. Plus, it's Google's starter guide, so it's the most trustworthy information you can find on SEO. You get all the tips, tricks, and tactics you can handle, straight from the search engine's mouth. The starter guide is a [PDF] file. So make sure you have something to read it with.
